The Ocean Community
The ocean is used for recreation and profit, loved for its beauty and studied by researchers.
The marine environment is used to discharge sewage (treated and untreated), cool power plants, create clean energy, and desalinated for drinking water.
Advocacy groups seek changes to protect the ocean for future generations
The sea is a highway for transportation of goods and people.
Human activities are managed by a vast number of government agencies at the international, national, provincial/state, regional and local levels.
The ocean is a subject of educational programs at all age levels.
Philanthropies, governments, corporations, and individuals fund ocean research and education.
All of these sectors are part of the ocean community, whether they are protecting the marine environment, using the sea to make a profit, or anything in between.
Like any community, there are differences of opinion about how to proceed into the future.
At OpenOceans Global, we intend to identify and recognize all sectors of the ocean community and the important common goal they have in understanding the ocean's processes if they are to successfully achieve their goals.
